The foundation addressed the nation’s leaders directly in a video film that included some of our favourite musicians and close friends of the late Riky Rick, including his partner, Bianca Naidoo.
Stating: “To our Leaders, The current budget allocated to mental health is ONLY 2%, the stats paint a scary picture for us where 75% of South African’s don’t get to seek the help they need for mental health. An increase in public spend will go a long way in providing more access to mental health.”
The foundation was started in honour of Riky Rick, who committed suicide, with the goal of addressing and increasing public awareness of mental health issues that affect people all over the country.
Drawing inspiration from the song “Stronger” by Riky Rick, the foundation underscored the significance of giving mental health top priority. They pleaded with government representatives to pay attention to their request and provide additional funding for public mental health programmes so that individuals in need would have easier access to vital services.
