Mark Akol & Sipho The Gift Drops The Heist Album

After releasing two singles with Pretoria-based musicians Tyson Sybateli on Apex and the stunning Phiwo on Fubu. The Cape Town rappers Mark Akol & Sipho The Gift Drops have blessed us with an extended play ‘The Heist’ Album consisting of ten songs.

Producer Mark Akol, a close friend of Sipho The Gift, teams up with the seasoned musician to create The Heist, which features themes of love and caring, hard hitting drums, and bars that highlight Rhea Blek and Phiwo. The tape has a remarkable depth to sound, and the tune “Masbone,” featuring Ewiva, also uses vernac! In the third track, “Big Dawg,” Sipho showcases his talents and expresses his gratitude for all the benefits from God.

Tracks 5 and 6 of the EP, “Black History” and “Black Blood,” respectively, have a duration of less than two minutes, although their seamless transition makes them feel like a single song. The final two tracks of the EP feature Flow Jones and Laliboi, with the former delivering a masterful verse and Laliboi concluding what is a powerful, aware recording.

Sipho The Gift and Mark Akol have previously collaborated on tracks like “Kate.” Their updated work on the cassette is polished and new.
