The South African artist, Samthing Soweto’s vocals on the song Amalanga Awafani have finally been given credit after a social media outrage.

When fans discovered Samthing’s vocals were on the song—which was released earlier this week—but his name wasn’t listed in the credits, it soon became a trending topic. Outraged, others took to social media to support the artist, slamming DJ Maphorisa and Mas MusiQ, who worked with Lawd Weezy and TO Starquality on the song.

Maphorisa responded by going on Instagram Live and stating that Samthing might not have fully comprehended the financial aspect of the music industry. Fans, for their part, were unmoved and threatened to stop buying Maphorisa’s music if Samthing wasn’t given due credit.

Samthing Soweto’s contribution to the song has now been formally acknowledged, owing to the public’s persistent lobbying.
