DJ Maphorisa slams Samthing Soweto over new song rights

The popular song Amalanga Awafani by Amalanga has gone viral after people saw that Samthing Soweto, one of the performers, was not given credit for the tune.

Mas Musiq, a.k.a. Thabo Ngubane, announced on Tuesday morning that the music had finally been made available after much anticipation.

Lawd Weezy, Star Quality, and DJ Maphorisa are the musicians included on the song’s credit list.

Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba, popularly known as Samthing Soweto, shared a broken heart in response to the music screenshot.

When fans asked Samthing Soweto in July when the song will be published, he said that it would be out as soon as the master share was distributed appropriately.

“People need to learn how to share masters; we do not work for each other; we work with each other,” wrote Samthing Soweto at the time.

The hitmaker Akulaleki’s supporters are urging everyone to join them in reporting the song on all streaming apps so that it can be removed.

Heavy K, a producer and DJ Mkhululi Siqula, joined the discussion and questioned the audience if they would also criticise him if he recorded the Ulele music video without Samthing Soweto.

“Remember that I attempted to get in touch with you and ask to meet Sam on the set of the Ulele music video [when you’re ready] after you promised to assist me,” Heavy K said.

In a live broadcast, DJ Maphorisa addressed the problem on social media, claiming that Samthing Soweto was the one who ruined the song since he didn’t want it to be released.

Maphorisa remarked, “You just ruined yourself because you’re avaricious and want to be the owners of all the song masters.”

I gave him a chance and we recorded his album, Isphithiphiti, in my home. When we could not take your garbage anymore, Mas Musiq gave you a chance. Stop ruining our chances and making us seem awful.

This is a developing story that will be updated upon receiving a response from Sony Music, the publishing firm.
